Many of us who are in the geospatial related industries probably have some sort of commercial GIS software installed on our desktop or we access spatial data through a spatial server of some sort. Chances are good that your commercial software of choice is ArcGIS, but there are many other commercial software packages available. Check out the following list and if I missed one (and I know I have) leave a comment and I’ll update the page.
| Link | Description |
| ESRI | The worldwide leader in GIS, like it or not |
| Smallworld | GE Smallworld, used in many network based applications |
| MapInfo | Now owned by Pitney Bowes, MapInfo was once a very popular GIS software, especially in the business world, but I haven’t seen it used in a while now. Maybe I’m not looking int the right places. |
| Bentley | One of the most popular GIS software providers that you have never heard of |
| Manifold | Low cost, high powered GIS. |
| Cadcorp | OGC powerhouse, this British firm’s software can read a million formats (well, maybe not a million, but a lot, none the less… |
| AutoDesk | CAD based GIS software |
| Maptitude | One of a series of spatial products from Caliper, who also produce TransCAD, a powerful transportation planning software. |
| ERDAS | Powerful raster analysis and image analysis software. |
| IDRISI | Raster analysis software from the renowned Clark Labs. |
| Intergraph | The world’s number two GIS software. |
| Global Mapper | Low cost GIS Analysis software that supports raster and vector analysis. I’ve never used Global Mapper. Have you? If so, what did you think? |
Add Maptitude to this list.
I have TransCAD listed, which is another product of Caliper’s. I’ll update the title of the link.
